Cyberpunk 2077 Live-Action Movie in the Works at Paramount

Did you ever think you'd see Night City on the big screen? Well, it's happening. A live-action Cyberpunk 2077 movie is officially in development at Paramount Pictures, and CD Projekt Red is co-producing. That's right, the studio behind the game is teaming up with Paramount and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, according to a report from Deadline.

If di Bonaventura's name sounds familiar, it's because he's the producer behind the live-action Transformers and G.I. Joe films. So he knows a thing or two about bringing big, action-packed properties to life. No word yet on plot details, cast, or a release date, but just knowing it's in the works is enough to get excited.

This isn't CD Projekt Red's first rodeo with adapting Cyberpunk for the screen. The studio also co-produced the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series, which hit Netflix in 2022 and was met with widespread acclaim. And if you're hungry for more, Edgerunners season 2 is set to arrive on October 20 with a whole new cast of characters. Let's hope they fare a bit better than the last crew, though knowing Cyberpunk, tragedy is always lurking.

Meanwhile, a new Cyberpunk game is also in development, though details are still scarce. The franchise is clearly expanding beyond just games, and it's worth remembering that Cyberpunk 2077 itself is an adaptation of Mike Pondsmith's tabletop role-playing game, simply titled Cyberpunk. Pondsmith has explained that CD Projekt Red holds the rights to develop new stories from the year 2077 onward in the timeline, while he continues to work on earlier eras for the tabletop game. So there's plenty of room for the movie to explore.

Paramount, for its part, has a solid track record with video game adaptations. The Sonic the Hedgehog films have been big hits, and the studio is also distributing the upcoming Street Fighter movie. With the bar for video game movies getting higher, hopefully Cyberpunk 2077 will be a worthy contender.

So, what do you think? Are you ready to see Night City brought to life in live action? Let us know in the comments!
