Ever think you could dominate a match if you just had a little extra incentive? Wardogs Season 2 is about to give you exactly that with a brand-new gambling mechanic called the Wager Vendor.
Launching on October 15, the new season adds a bunch of content, including a weather system that brings rain to matches. But the headline feature is the Wager Vendor, which lets you bet on yourself. Fancy getting 20 kills in a match? Make a bet, and if you pull it off, you'll be rewarded. Fail, and you'll lose cash. The harder the challenge, the bigger the payout.
According to developer Bulkhead, the Wager Vendor won't be available right away. You'll need to build up your cash reserves to unlock it. "The Wager Vendor basically lets you bet on your own performance," said co-founder Howard Philpott in an interview with IGN. "So if I want to go in and say, 'I'm going to get 20 kills this match,' you then set that in your Wager Vendor, you then set the condition so I can say, 'Oh, I need to go and kill 20 people with my fists.' Okay, that's a bit harder, but that's when the odds go up. And then you set that as a condition and you can add multiple conditions."
Senior producer Kane Allard added, "If you're a really good player and you're really smart about building your wager, you can make big money, but you can also lose big money." You can get extremely specific with your wagers. "Conditions-wise, it can even go down to as minute as, 'I need to get five kills, they're all head shots, all with the AK74M, and they all have to be in the hot zone, and my loadout has to cost less than 20K,'" Allard explained. "You can build that wager and you can maybe earn double of what you put down, but that's a lot of restrictions that you're putting on yourself, and there's going to be players that may be also trying the same thing, and it just adds a little bit more tension to the game."
This isn't just about making money—it could also change how you play. For example, if you're a medic, you could set a bonus for reviving 30 players, which incentivizes you to help your team more. It's a clever way to add tension and reward skillful play.
Gambling mechanics aren't entirely new to shooters. Call of Duty: Black Ops had a simpler version in 2010, where you could unlock items with in-game currency and bet in high-stakes party games like Gun Game and One in the Chamber. GTA Online also lets you bet on other players in PvP modes. But Wardogs' system seems far more detailed, letting you tailor conditions to your exact playstyle.
It'll be interesting to see how this changes player behavior when Season 2 drops on October 15. Will you be betting on yourself? What kind of crazy wager would you set? Let us know in the comments!
