Blizzard Adds Heartfelt 'Kyle's Gone Missing' Quest to WoW Forever

Blizzard has added the beloved 'Kyle's Gone Missing!' quest to World of Warcraft: Forever, honoring Ezra Chatterton, the Make-A-Wish kid who created it.

Blizzard Adds Heartfelt 'Kyle's Gone Missing' Quest to WoW Forever

Did you ever think a simple quest could carry so much meaning? Well, World of Warcraft: Forever just got a whole lot more emotional with the addition of 'Kyle's Gone Missing!' – a quest that's been a fan favorite since its debut in The Burning Crusade.

For those who don't know the story, 'Kyle's Gone Missing!' was added back in 2007 through a Make-A-Wish campaign for Ezra Chatterton, a young boy battling brain cancer. Ezra, known in-game as Ephoenix, didn't just get to visit Blizzard – he helped design the quest, voiced the quest-giver Ahab Wheathoof, and even had his real-life dog Kyle immortalized in the game. The quest went live in patch 2.1.2 on June 19, 2007, and has been a cherished part of WoW ever since. Tragically, Ezra passed away in October 2008 at just 12 years old, but his legacy lives on.

Now, World of Warcraft: Forever – Blizzard's effort to preserve the vanilla experience – has welcomed this quest with open arms. It might seem like a no-brainer, but because the quest originally came from The Burning Crusade, it wasn't part of the classic content. However, players spoke up. A forum user named Nyaria shared how sad her husband was that the quest wasn't in Mulgore, and the community rallied. Blizzard community manager Kaivax simply replied, "We're working on it. Stay tuned." And just four days later, the quest hit the beta as part of the October 1 patch.

Johnny Cash, the Blizzard Principal Designer who implemented the quest, shared his thoughts on X/Twitter: "I had the honor and privilege of bringing 'Kyle's Gone Missing!' into WoW: Forever. Ezra Chatterton was an enormous WoW fan, the creator and voice actor behind Ahab Wheathoof, and the creator of Kyle. A tear was shed during this one, my friends. Rest in peace, Ezra."

Getting the quest is easy, especially if you're a Tauren. Head to Bloodhoof Village in Mulgore – the first town you'll encounter – and you can pick it up at level 5. Then, hunt down plainstriders (those giant ostrich-like creatures) until you get Tender Strider Meat. Feed it to Kyle, and he'll return home. Simple, but oh-so-satisfying.

The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive. One player, Ikory, who identified as a Make-A-Wish survivor, wrote a heartfelt thank-you: "I spent 30 years in crippling pain, with a failing heart... I am a survivor. I was that kid who was supposed to die. Now I have a freaken PhD. I lived. Make-A-Wish helped me have hope as a kid. I got my wish. I'm glad Ezra got his wish. Thank you Blizzard for still caring about us Make-A-Wish kids after all these years."

It's moments like this that remind us why WoW is more than just a game. While Blizzard has been firm about keeping Forever true to vanilla, they've shown they're willing to make exceptions for content that truly matters. So, will you be heading to Mulgore to find Kyle? What do you think about this addition? Let us know in the comments!
