Have you ever looked at an upcoming dark RPG and immediately wondered if your console would handle it at a silky smooth 60 frames per second? If you have been keeping an eye on The Blood of Dawnwalker, we have some fantastic news for you. Developer Rebel Wolves initially had console players worried that 60fps would be locked strictly to high-end PC rigs, but that is officially changing right at launch.
Following a wave of community feedback, the studio announced that a day-one patch will bring a dedicated 60fps Performance mode to Xbox Series X, PS5, and PS5 Pro when the game lands on September 3. The developers took to their official X account to clear the air, explaining: "Performance mode was already in the works, but it was still being tested. We simply weren’t ready to promise it yet. We heard your feedback. It was clear how much this mattered to many of you, so we focused on finishing the next round of tests. Those results gave us the confidence we needed to confirm Performance Mode for Day one."
So, what visual options can you actually expect when you boot up the game? If you are playing on Xbox Series X, PS5, or PS5 Pro, you will get three distinct graphical modes to choose from: Performance (targeting 60fps), Balanced (targeting 40fps), and Quality (targeting 30fps). While specific visual trade-offs have not been detailed in full, Performance mode typically dials back heavy lighting and particle effects for fluid frame rates, while Quality maximizes graphical detail. Meanwhile, Xbox Series S owners will have a single mode targeting 30fps on the lower-spec console.
In case you are not familiar with Rebel Wolves yet, this dark fantasy title is their debut project, and the pedigree behind the studio is massive. The team features several former Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 developers on its roster, including Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the game director behind The Witcher 3. With that kind of talent at the helm, getting the combat and atmosphere to feel responsive on consoles is a huge win for players.
Set in a grim medieval world crawling with vampires, The Blood of Dawnwalker tasks you with building up enough power for a final showdown against the menacing vampire lord Brencis. But gaining that strength comes with serious narrative weight. As highlighted in previews, the dark hunger inside your character can take hold at any moment, forcing you to deal with unpredictable consequences whether you are bandaging a wounded comrade or fighting for your family.
With the September 3 release date fast approaching, it is always refreshing to see a dev team listen directly to player feedback and lock in performance options before day one. Which graphical mode will you be choosing when you dive into this vampire adventure? Let us know what you think!
