Ever found yourself mashing the X or A button just to make your GTA character run, wishing it was as simple as clicking the left stick like in every other game? Well, good news: Rockstar has finally listened. Grand Theft Auto 6 is removing the series' worst feature—the clunky sprint mechanic—and replacing it with the industry-standard analog stick click.
If you've played any GTA before, you know the pain. Instead of clicking the left analog stick to sprint, you had to hold or mash a face button. It was unintuitive, awkward, and felt like a relic from a bygone era. But according to Italian YouTuber MikeShowSha, GTA 6 is doing away with it entirely. Now, you'll simply click the left stick to run, just like in most modern games. It's a small change that makes a huge difference, especially for anyone whose muscle memory has been trained by countless other titles over the years.
This move brings GTA in line with contemporary control schemes, similar to how Halo has adapted its controls over time. However, unlike Halo, which often offers legacy control options, GTA 6 seems to be going all-in on the new scheme. It's a bold decision, but one that will likely be welcomed by players who've long complained about the old system.
Of course, this isn't the only change coming to the highly anticipated title. The map is reportedly three times larger than Red Dead Redemption 2's, promising an even more expansive playground for chaos and exploration. There's also a new Criminal Profile system, which sounds like it'll add a layer of persistence to your criminal activities. And in true Rockstar fashion, they're adding throwable dog poop—because why not? Plus, a physical-fitness system will track your character's health and stamina, adding another dimension to gameplay.
With a release date set for November 19 on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, GTA 6 is shaping up to be one of the biggest entertainment launches in history. And with this simple yet impactful control tweak, it's clear Rockstar is paying attention to what players want. No more mashing buttons—just smooth, intuitive running.
Will this change make you more excited for GTA 6, or were you a fan of the old sprint? Let us know in the comments!
