Rebel Wolves' vampire RPG gets a quirky new feature: directional animal petting, plus a new Story mode with combat assist and over 1,100 changes in update 1.1.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Update Adds Directional Animal Petting

Ever wanted to pet a cat from a different angle in a vampire RPG? The Blood of Dawnwalker's next update has you covered.

Rebel Wolves has announced that update 1.1 for its vampire RPG will introduce "directional animal petting." Yes, you read that right. The studio posted on X: "What happens when you merge a directional combat system with an ability to pet dogs and cats? Directional. Animal. Petting." The game already features a directional combat system similar to Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and now that system is being used for petting animals. Sadly, no further details were given, but it's certainly a unique addition.

But that's not all. The update also brings a new Story mode that's easier than the previous Story mode. It includes an "additional combat assist" for players who want to focus on the narrative and decisions rather than mastering swordplay. The existing Story mode isn't going away—it's just being renamed to "Forgiving." So you'll have two options: the new easier mode and the renamed Forgiving mode.

Elsewhere, update 1.1 adds the Draught of Mind Rebirth, an item that lets you respec your abilities. It refunds points you've allocated into skill trees so you can spend them elsewhere. That's a big win for players who want to experiment with different builds.

Smaller changes include improved combat targeting, better traversal, in-game camera tweaks, and updates to FrameGen tech. In total, Rebel Wolves promises 1,100 changes coming to The Blood of Dawnwalker. It's unlikely any of these relate to the game's controversial time mechanic, even though the studio has said this system might not feature in the sequel. And yes, a sequel is already in the works after the first game sold 1 million copies in its first three days.

So, will you be petting animals directionally? What do you think of the new Story mode? Let us know in the comments!
