Razer Barracuda V2 Pro: Dongle Storage Steals the Show

Razer's new Barracuda V2 Pro headset features a hidden compartment in the left earcup for its wireless dongle, plus premium audio and 70-hour battery life.

Razer Barracuda V2 Pro: Dongle Storage Steals the Show

Ever lost a tiny wireless dongle and wanted to scream? Razer feels your pain. The company just launched the Barracuda V2 Pro, a $199.99 / £199.99 headset that hides its 2.4GHz HyperSpeed dongle inside the left earcup. Pop off the magnetic cover and there it is, safe and sound. No more Russian-doll packaging or frantic sofa searches.

Beyond the clever storage, the Barracuda V2 Pro packs 40mm TriForce Bio-Cellulose drivers, active noise cancellation, and THX Spatial Audio+. It supports simultaneous 2.4GHz and Bluetooth connections, so you can game and take calls without missing a beat. At just 285g and with a foldable design, it's built for travel. Battery life clocks in at up to 70 hours, and there's no RGB lighting to drain it.

Razer isn't the first to think outside the box. Fractal Design's Scape headset stores its dongle under the charging base, and 8BitDo's Ultimate 2 controller has a similar compartment. But seeing this on a headset is a welcome change, especially for those of us who lose dongles daily. The magnetic earcup cover makes switching between Bluetooth and 2.4GHz a breeze.

One catch: the compartment only fits the dongle, not the included USB-C to USB-A adapter. That little guy might still go missing. Also, both earcup covers are removable, but the right one only holds copyright info. Could Razer be planning swappable covers like SteelSeries Booster Packs? Nothing official, but with Razer's recent Pokémon collections, we can dream.

The Barracuda V2 Pro is available now from Amazon and Razer's official store. No carrying case is included, but the foldable form factor makes it easy to toss in a bag. Early impressions suggest it's a solid companion for gaming and music on the go, much like the Barracuda X Chroma. A full review is coming next week.
