Ever wondered what it'd be like to soar over Final Fantasy 7's world in the Highwind? That's exactly what one previewer did in the first two hours of Final Fantasy VII Revelation. And those hours flew by.
But when they stopped to think about it, they realized just how much ground they'd covered. They zoomed around the skies above the open-world map aboard the Highwind airship. They revisited some of the earliest areas from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to see how they'd changed. And they saw a decent chunk of Yuffie's political quest in her hometown of Wutai. That's a lot for a two-hour session.
The game is enormous, and it seems even more focused on freedom than its predecessors. The big question is whether that freedom will help players better handle the bloat that dragged down Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. If you played Rebirth, you know the feeling: tons of side content that sometimes felt like a chore. Revelation might be addressing that by giving you more control over how you explore.
Freedom could mean you can skip the stuff you don't like and focus on what matters to you. Or it could mean even more distractions. We won't know until we play more. But the early signs are promising: an open world, an airship, and a return to familiar locations with new twists.
Yuffie's political quest in Wutai is a standout. It's a deep dive into her hometown and its politics, which should please fans who wanted more of her story after Intermission. Plus, seeing how early areas from Rebirth have changed adds a layer of continuity that makes the world feel alive.
So, will Revelation's freedom be a blessing or a curse? Only time will tell. But if you're a Final Fantasy 7 fan, this is one to watch. The scale alone is impressive, and the focus on freedom could be a game-changer.
