Witcher 3 Remastered Broken on AMD GPUs?

Are you one of the many AMD gamers trying to dive into The Witcher 3 Remastered right now? If so, you might want to hold off for a bit. The game launched earlier today, and while Nvidia users are having a blast, AMD Radeon owners are reporting a ton of bugs and visual artifacts.

According to posts on the /r/Radeon subreddit, some players are seeing trees completely missing from the environment and black artifacts popping up all over the screen. Another Reddit post shows the foliage in White Orchard looking like it was run through a negative filter. Over on Twitter, user NikTek shared a clip outside Novigrad with similar glitches, and when he goes into the river, the water surface starts blinking like a strobe light. Yikes.

CD Projekt Red seems to be aware of the problems. They posted on X/Twitter recommending players upgrade their graphics driver to a supported version. The catch? The supported Radeon driver, Adrenalin 26.9.2, wasn't out yet at the time. The most recent driver was Adrenalin 26.8.1, released on August 20. So if you're on AMD, you were stuck waiting.

Good news: AMD has now released Adrenalin 26.9.2, which should solve the graphics issues for AMD users. So if you were holding off, you can finally jump in. Just make sure you grab the new driver first.

It's not clear why CD Projekt Red released the game without making sure it works on existing AMD drivers, but it's possible that the Radeon driver was delayed. We've reached out to both AMD and CD Projekt Red for comment and will update if we hear back.

Regardless of these temporary glitches on AMD hardware, the remastered version of The Witcher 3 comes with a whole host of gameplay and graphics improvements that really bring the game into the current generation. Just keep in mind that if you want to max the game out with path tracing, you're going to need an incredibly powerful gaming PC.
