The Blood of Dawnwalker's Update 1.1 arrives next week with a respec item, petting, a new Story difficulty, and more.

Ever wanted to pet the dog in The Blood of Dawnwalker? Your wish is about to come true. Developer Rebel Wolves is rolling out Update 1.1 next week, and it's packed with features that should make the game even better.

The headliner for many will be the ability to pet both dogs and cats using the game's directional system. That's right – the same system you use for combat will now let you show some love to the furry friends you meet. It's a small touch, but it's the kind of thing that makes an RPG feel more alive.

But that's not all. Update 1.1 also introduces a new Story difficulty setting that provides "additional combat assist," perfect for players who want to focus on the narrative. There are also new subtitle settings across all lines of dialogue, so you can customize your viewing experience.

Perhaps the most crucial addition is the Draught of Mind Rebirth. This handy item lets you forget all the skills and abilities you've acquired across the Swordmastery, Witchcraft, and Vampirism trees. Not only can you reallocate your points to better fit your playstyle, but you'll also get back the time associated with those skills. That means you might have a chance to complete extra missions if you're feeling the pressure of the game's 30-day limit. However, we didn't find that limit too restrictive in our playthrough.

Update 1.1 isn't just about new features – it also tweaks existing systems. The FrameGen system gets an update, the camera is improved, and abilities like Shadowstep and Planeshift are better. The Japanese version will no longer censor blood, and combat improvements should make it easier to target your intended enemy. Currently, the direction-based system can be finicky because it prioritizes blocking incoming attacks over focusing on a specific foe.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. In our review, Phil Hornshaw said, "The Blood of Dawnwalker is the kind of RPG that feels great to get lost in, that digs into your mind and stays there, and which is worth scouring and savoring."

So, will you be picking up the Draught of Mind Rebirth to respec your character? Or are you just here for the petting? Let us know in the comments!
