Star Wars: Galactic Racer Scores Big on Metacritic

Did you ever think a Star Wars racing game would outscore the Jedi series? Well, Star Wars: Galactic Racer has done just that, speeding to an 88 on Metacritic after 50 reviews. That puts it among the elite Star Wars games, tied with Pinball FX and ZEN Pinball's Star Wars tables for fifth-best ever. It's only behind Knights of the Old Republic, Dark Forces 2, Rogue Squadron 2, and Jedi Outcast. Not bad for a game about high-speed chaos in a galaxy far, far away.

Critics are loving the return to carnage-filled arcade racing. GamesRadar+'s Will Sawyer gave it four out of five stars, praising how it brings 2000s arcade racing into the modern day with "slick and exhilarating high-speed racing" that mixes perfectly with a run-based format and roguelike elements. That's a mouthful, but it basically means you get fast, frantic fun with a twist of replayability.

Other outlets were even more generous. Eurogamer, Mirror Gaming, Giant Bomb, and Radio Times all handed out full marks—five stars. The rest of the reviews are still positive, with a couple of 7/10 scores and one 68/100. So even the harshest critics found something to enjoy. In a time when Star Wars films have been hit-or-miss and some TV series have been real stinkers (RIP to the good ones that got canceled), Galactic Racer joins Zero Company as a bright spot for fans craving quality from the franchise.

Of course, the game's story is a "sports movie" set after Return of the Jedi, mirroring the real-life post-WW2 motorsports boom. That means you get a fresh era to explore, one that's less about Jedi and Sith and more about adrenaline and rivalries. And hey, if it had a romance option with podracing legend Ben Quadinaros, we might be talking about the highest-rated game in history. But for now, an 88 is nothing to scoff at.

So, what do you think? Will you be picking up Star Wars: Galactic Racer to see what all the fuss is about?
