Get ready, because Sony might just have its own Animal Crossing up its sleeve. According to a report from MP1st, Media Molecule — the brilliant minds behind LittleBigPlanet and Dreams — is finally ready to show off what they've been cooking for the past six years.
Since Dreams launched in 2020, the UK studio has been pretty quiet. But that silence isn't for nothing. Sony has already pulled the plug on Dreams' online support, shifting the entire team over to an unannounced new IP. And now we have our first real hint of what that project actually is.
Word on the street is that this new game is a social simulation title, taking direct inspiration from none other than Animal Crossing and Story of Seasons. Yep, you read that right — Sony might be looking to carve out its own cozy corner of the gaming world.
Don't expect a full-blown live-service grind, though. The report notes that this isn't a GaaS game, though it doesn't rule out some service-style elements sneaking in. So maybe a little seasonal content here and there, but nothing that'll demand your daily login.
As for when we'll actually see it? The plan is apparently to reveal and launch the game in 2027. That's a long wait, but after six years of silence, at least we have a light at the end of the tunnel. Of course, game development being what it is, delays are always possible — but the report suggests 2027 is the target for its big debut.
What's really interesting here is the shift in direction. Dreams was all about giving players the tools to create their own games and experiences. This new project, however, is a complete, packaged experience — a traditional game you play rather than a platform you build on. It's a bold pivot for Media Molecule, and honestly, it's kind of exciting.
So, what do you think? Is a Sony-flavored Animal Crossing something you'd sink hundreds of hours into, or should Media Molecule have stuck with the creation-tool approach? Let us know in the comments!
