GTA 6 Promises Longer-Lasting Weather, Building on Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar says GTA 6 will feature more persistent weather than Red Dead Redemption 2, where storms reportedly blew over in just a couple of minutes. Flying into storms could even get dangerous.

Rockstar is promising something weather nerds and immersion fans have wanted for years: GTA 6 will have "more persistent weather," according to a report from GameInformer.

If you played Red Dead Redemption 2, you know the vibe. The weather there looked gorgeous, but it had a habit of cycling way too fast. A full-on thunderstorm could roll in and vanish in two or three minutes flat. For a game that prides itself on pulling you into its world, that quick flip could snap you right out of it.

GTA 6 is apparently aiming to fix that. The promise of "more persistent weather" means storms and rain will stick around for longer stretches instead of blinking in and out. Over on Reddit, players have been chewing on what that could mean, especially after official descriptions of how storms behave and how wind dynamics work. The theory going around? Flying an aircraft straight into a storm could get genuinely dangerous, maybe even impossible. If that pans out, it'd be a first for the series.

Of course, there's a catch. Longer weather cycles need a longer day-night cycle to match, and that's a much trickier balancing act in GTA than it was in Red Dead. In Red Dead, you mostly got around on horseback. In GTA, you can hop in a plane, floor a car, or take a boat and cross the map in no time. Stretch out the days too far and the pacing could feel off; keep them too short and your epic storm is gone before you finish the drive.

And the weather isn't the only thing getting a glow-up. The report notes that compared to GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA 6 is expected to improve on basically every front. The law enforcement system, for one, has been completely rebuilt from the ground up.

So yeah, Rockstar seems to be going all-in on making its next open world feel alive in ways the last one only hinted at. Longer storms, smarter cops, and who knows what else still under wraps.

What do you think? Are you here for slow, moody storms that actually stick around, or do you prefer your weather quick and out of the way? Let us know in the comments.
