Ace Attorney Fans Get VR Dual Destinies, Not Ace Attorney 7

Were you hoping for Ace Attorney 7? Well, Capcom has some news, but it's probably not what you wanted. Instead of the long-awaited sequel, Capcom has announced a VR port of Ace Attorney 5: Dual Destinies. Yeah, you read that right.

It's been a decade since Ace Attorney 6: Spirit of Justice came out, and fans have been clamoring for a new mainline entry ever since. Sure, we finally got official translations of The Great Ace Attorney duology and Ace Attorney Investigations 2, which was great, but the hunger for Ace Attorney 7 is real. Capcom has even said it wants Ace Attorney to stand alongside its big franchises like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter. That got everyone thinking: with all the re-releases done, Ace Attorney 7 must be next, right?

Well, today's announcement is a VR port of Dual Destinies, developed and published by Amanta K.K., not Capcom. It's VR-only, and it's not the sequel fans were hoping for. To make matters worse, many consider Dual Destinies to be the weakest mainline entry in the series. So, yeah, the fanbase isn't exactly thrilled.

Now, VR adaptations can be awesome—Capcom's own Resident Evil 4 VR proved that. But this feels like a case of poor timing. Fans are pointing out that there's still one more Ace Attorney game that could be translated: The VR-20 Incident, a Japan-exclusive VR title. But that's not Ace Attorney 7 either.

Personally, I still believe Ace Attorney 7 is on the way. Capcom has been investing in the series by localizing missing titles, and the company's ambition to make it a tentpole franchise suggests something big is in the works. Just look at Devil May Cry—after the success of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Capcom said it wants to revive more dormant series. So maybe Ace Attorney 7 is just biding its time.
