What if Doctor Strange, Thor, and Ghost Rider teamed up to take on Hela and Dormammu in your next game of Magic: The Gathering? That's exactly what's coming in 2027.
At New York Comic Con today, Wizards of the Coast announced Marvel's Darkhold Destiny, the first Universes Beyond expansion set for Magic: The Gathering in 2027. The set pits iconic Marvel heroes like Doctor Strange, Thor, and Ghost Rider against cosmic villains such as Hela and Dormammu.
During an hour-long panel, Wizards showed off multiple cards from the set, including Magic, who transforms into Darkchild, Gargantos, and the titular Darkhold. The set will include normal and Collector booster packs, plus four pre-constructed Commander decks themed around Marvel heroes and villains, including the Midnight Sons.
But it's not just about the cards. Darkhold Destiny tells an original story co-created by designers at Marvel and Wizards of the Coast. Alongside that story, a brand-new character created for this set will be introduced in a Marvel Infinity comic series starting in February.
Mechanically, the set introduces Vengeance, an Adventure-like gameplay feature that lets you cast spells from your graveyard and return the permanent it's attached to back to the battlefield. The Arcane subtype for spells also makes a return.
Darkhold Destiny launches April 9 in big-box retailers and local game stores. So mark your calendars, Marvel and Magic fans—this crossover is shaping up to be a big one.
