Did you catch that jaw-dropping moment at Summer Game Fest 2026? Capcom finally confirmed the long-rumored remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, and it's officially called Resident Evil Veronica. The reveal was a total surprise, and fans are already losing their minds.
So what's the deal? Resident Evil Veronica is set to launch sometime in 2027. No exact date yet, but Capcom has confirmed it's coming to PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X. That's right—all platforms simultaneously. The remake promises to "preserve the essence of the original game" while delivering shiny new graphics, gameplay enhancements, and a "chilling new entry in survival horror."
In case you missed the hype, the game racked up two million Steam wishlists within a month of its reveal. That's massive, and it shows just how hungry fans are for more classic Resi action. It's also worth noting that Capcom had a killer 2026 with the new sci-fi IP Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem, which is already being hailed as one of the best survival horror games around.
Story-wise, Resident Evil Veronica is a reimagining of the original. You'll step into the shoes of Claire Redfield, who we last saw in the Resident Evil 2 Remake alongside Leon Kennedy. This time, she's three months removed from the Raccoon City disaster and has traveled to France to find her brother, Chris. But before any family reunion can happen, Umbrella swoops in and captures her, whisking her away to the remote Rockfort Island. And surprise—that island is also hit by another biological disaster. Classic Resi, right?
One thing fans are buzzing about: Albert Wesker is back. The original Code Veronica featured the iconic villain, and his presence here could be a sign that Capcom is building connective tissue between this remake and a potential Resident Evil 5 remake. With a Wesker clone named Zeno already appearing in Resident Evil Requiem, the pieces are definitely falling into place.
Gameplay-wise, Resident Evil Veronica will be modernized to match recent entries in the series. While we haven't seen actual gameplay yet, a producer confirmed it'll be a third-person experience—despite the first-person reveal trailer that kept us guessing. The original game had multiple playable characters, including Steve Burnside and Chris Redfield, so we're expecting that structure to return.
With a stacked early 2027 lineup that includes Stranger Than Heaven, Fable, and Exodus, it'll be interesting to see when exactly Veronica drops. A spooky season release would be fitting, but we'll have to wait for Capcom to confirm. Either way, this remake is shaping up to be something special.
What do you think? Are you ready to return to Rockfort Island, or are you hoping for a different Resi remake next? Let us know in the comments!
