If you own the original physical cartridge of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Switch, you can now grab a free digital copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered on Switch 2. No extra payment. No hoops to jump through.

Here's how it works: just update your game and boot it up, and the Switch 2 digital version is yours. Once you've claimed it, you won't need to keep inserting that original Switch cartridge to play the Switch 2 version. The digital copy stands on its own, so you can leave the physical card in its case and never worry about swapping it in just to verify you own the game.

That last part is the real kicker. Cross-generation upgrades often come with annoying caveats, like needing the old disc or cart inserted every time you want to play. CDPR is skipping that entirely.
