Have you seen the fanart for Castlevania: Belmont's Curse? The developers certainly have—and they're absolutely loving it. The team behind the game is fully aware of the 'horny' fanart flooding social media, and they're not shying away from it. In fact, they were counting on it.
Speaking with Fall Damage, marketing director and lead designer Bérenger Dupré and Sandro Bordier opened up about the thirsty reactions to the game's characters. "Oh, it has started already. Like, man, have we seen some things," Bordier joked. Dupré added, "Trevor, especially. Didn't realize that he would be so well-received." The duo even joked about adding a 'Hot Dads Edition' and said there "should be a Game Award for hot dads."
But it's not just about the laughs—the devs genuinely appreciate the passion. "It's always fun to see the fanart, because we know how important and dear these characters are to the fans," Dupré continued. "We are trying to make some new, fresh stories with them, so it's always quite stressful. And for now, the reception is very, very emotional." That emotional connection is something the team clearly values.
And yes, the attractive designs were intentional. "Yes, like we know some characters are hot. It's a choice, actually. Like it's a vibe. We're pretty proud of it," Bordier admitted. He also noted, "Honestly, we were super happy with all the fan reactions regarding the characters that were revealed. We really put a lot of love from the team to design them in a way that would please fans." So go ahead and swoon—the devs are here for it.
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse released on October 15 to solid reviews. IGN's Scott White gave it an eight out of ten, praising it for "bringing Konami's beloved series into the modern era with a fast-paced focus on action first." It's clear a lot of love went into the game, from Easter Eggs to secret codes, including a homage to classic fighting game characters hidden in one of the first areas.
So, whether you're here for the action or the attractive monsters, the developers are thrilled you're enjoying the ride. They've crafted a fresh story with characters that resonate—and if that means a flood of fanart, they're all for it.
