Xbox Gets Exclusive $5 Perk for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Preorders

Thinking about grabbing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4? If you're on Xbox or PC, Microsoft is sweetening the deal with an exclusive perk you won't find on other consoles.

Here's the scoop: preorder any edition of MW4 through the Microsoft Store—whether on Xbox or PC—and you'll get a $5 digital credit. That's right, five bucks back just for locking in your copy. The credit will pop up as a notification in the Xbox app on PC within 35 days of the game's launch on October 23, and a similar notification will appear on your Xbox. It's not a fortune, but hey, in this economy? We'll take it.

But wait, there's more. Microsoft and Activision are also bringing back the "loyalty discount" for the game's $100 Vault Edition on all platforms. If you've owned and played any of the qualifying Call of Duty titles—or claimed them via PlayStation Plus—you can snag 10% off, dropping the price to $90. Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and PC subscribers who've played one of those games also qualify. Just make sure you preorder on the same platform account where you played the qualifying game.

Here's the full list of qualifying games: Modern Warfare (2019), Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered (2020), Black Ops Cold War, Vanguard, Modern Warfare II (2022), Modern Warfare III (2023), Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7. Note that MW4 is the first Call of Duty since 2013 to skip PS4 and Xbox One, so if you played a qualifying game on last-gen, you're still in. Unfortunately, no Nintendo platform had any of these games, so Switch 2 owners are out of luck for the discount.

This move makes sense—Microsoft owns Call of Duty now, and they want to encourage purchases on their own platforms. But don't worry, PlayStation fans: they're not pulling the game from Sony's consoles because there's too much money to be made. Plus, MW4 is coming to Switch 2, which is a huge deal since it's the first CoD on a Nintendo system since 2013's Ghosts.
