Looks like the battle between Battlefield and Call of Duty is about to jump from your console to the big screen.

Sony Pictures is currently in the driver's seat in a multi-party bidding war for the live-action film rights to Battlefield, and has reportedly entered negotiations. The competition was stacked, with Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon MGM, Universal and Netflix all throwing their hats in the ring. Insiders are calling it one of the biggest rights bidding wars of 2026.

The creative team is already taking shape, and it's a seriously heavy-hitting lineup. Christopher McQuarrie is set to write, direct and produce. If that name rings a bell, it should — he directed the last four Mission: Impossible films and served as writer and producer on Top Gun: Maverick. Yeah, that guy.

Michael B. Jordan is also on board as a producer and is eyeing the lead role, though whether he actually stars depends on multiple factors. Fresh off winning the Best Actor Oscar for his dual role in Sinners, Jordan would bring serious star power to the project. The producing team also includes EA's Jesse Stern, Emerald Neon's Kat Swan, Vertigo's Roy Lee and Outlier Society president Elizabeth Raposo.

The Battlefield franchise kicked off back in 2002 with Battlefield 1942, set during World War II. Over the past two decades, the series has bounced between historical events, alternate history and futuristic conflicts, so there's plenty of material to pull from for a film adaptation.

Here's where things get really interesting. The movie rights to Call of Duty have already been snapped up by Paramount, with Peter Berg directing and Taylor Sheridan involved in the script. That project is locked in for a June 30, 2028 release date.

So the rivalry between these two military shooter giants is about to extend well beyond game sales. It's heading straight for the Hollywood box office.
