Fable Dev Says 2027 Delay Dodges 'Chaotic Window'—We All Know What That Means

Fable's director explains the delay to 2027 as avoiding a 'chaotic window,' which everyone interprets as dodging GTA 6. Here's the full story.

Fable Dev Says 2027 Delay Dodges 'Chaotic Window'—We All Know What That Means

Remember when Fable was supposed to hit shelves this year? Well, surprise—it's now coming in February 2027, and the devs are actually pretty stoked about it. But let's be real: we all know why.

In a recent chat with IGN, Fable's director Ralph Fulton spilled the beans on the delay, saying he feels "great" about the new launch window. He didn't outright say it, but when he mentioned dodging a "chaotic window," we all knew he meant one thing: GTA 6.

Fulton explained that moving to 2027 helps the game avoid the crowded release schedule of late 2026. And he's got a point—that's when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (October 23) and GTA 6 (November 19) are dropping. Yikes. That's like showing up to a party where everyone's already dancing and the DJ's playing your least favorite song.

He even admitted that telling his team in January, "This is the year we ship Fable," wasn't fun, especially after another all-hands meeting. But he's confident the rationale is "absolutely sound." And honestly, who wants to compete with the gaming equivalent of a supernova?

This isn't the first time Fulton hinted at GTA's shadow. Back in June, he mentioned avoiding a "really congested period" and, get this, "obviously avoiding Grand Theft Auto." So yeah, no mystery there.

Now, you might've seen some rough-looking combat footage from Gamescom this week, but GameSpot's hands-on time told a different story. So don't judge a book by its cover—or a game by its trailer.

Fable launches on February 23, 2027, for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. That's a fresh start in a quieter window, and maybe that's exactly what this reboot needs. Will you be picking it up when it finally arrives?
