Vincent D'Onofrio Defends Laufey Star from Trolls

Ever seen a Hollywood A-lister jump into a Twitter flame war to defend a co-star? That's exactly what Vincent D'Onofrio did when a self-proclaimed 'gooner' attacked Deborah Ann Woll's appearance in the upcoming God of War Laufey.

The drama started when a user named 'Geralt of Goonia' complained that Sony's Santa Monica Studio "would rather go bankrupt than give you an ounce of female attractiveness," specifically about how much skin the game's armor sets cover. The troll's gripe was aimed at Woll's in-game look as Laufey, Kratos' second wife and Loki's mother in Norse mythology.

D'Onofrio, who acted alongside Woll in Netflix's Daredevil, wasn't having any of it. He quote-tweeted the troll with a passionate defense: "Not that you asked, but… In no way do I agree with you. Deborah is beautiful and extremely talented. She is as smart as a whip and a complete nerd. Also incredibly kind. How perfect she is! And a good friend. I am a fan of God of War. I, for one, cannot wait to play the new game with my son." Boom. Kingpin has spoken.

Despite getting owned by the man himself, Geralt of Goonia kept ranting, which only sparked a wave of memes and responses from players defending Laufey and sharing D'Onofrio's excitement. It's not the first time Laufey has been a hot topic either. Original God of War creator David Jaffe called the game "stupid" on a recent livestream and accused creative director Ariel Lawrence of lacking passion, though he later clarified his remarks and defended Lawrence from harassment. Similarly, The Last of Us director Bruce Straley used Laufey as an example of AAA games that failed to excite him, but he too apologized for bringing "uninvited and unnecessary negative attention" to the title.

Woll herself remains unbothered. At Florida Supercon in July, she told a fan she's confident Laufey is fantastic, saying, "Genuinely, I thought I was going to be much more offended by it, but one, I'm not on social media, so that helps, and two, I don't know, I feel totally unbothered. Because I just know it's great. It's okay if it's not your cup of tea, but in no universe is it bad." That's the kind of energy we can all appreciate.

So, what do you think? Are you excited to play God of War Laufey when it launches on February 16, 2027, exclusively on PlayStation 5? Let us know in the comments!
