Ever wondered if you're getting the most grams of gaming mouse for your hard-earned cash? A PC Gamer writer recently went down a rabbit hole after spotting a price-to-ounce ratio on an Amazon listing for the Turtle Beach Burst II Air. That sparked a quest to find the best price-to-gram ratio among gaming mice. But he didn't stop there—he created a whole new metric called the 'James score'.
The James score is a combination of two things: the price-to-weight ratio (grams per dollar) and the review score. The writer graphed each mouse's price-to-weight value, assigned percentages from 0% to 100%, and then averaged that with the review score. It's a bit overkill, but hey, science!
So, which mouse came out on top? The Glorious Model O Eternal, with a final score of 93.5%. It costs $40, weighs 55g, and has a review score of 92%. The writer even recommended it as a budget buy this week. Second place goes to the 8BitDo Retro R8, which scored 92% and happens to be the mouse on the writer's desk. Joint third place goes to two Mchose mice: the K7 V2 Ultra+ and L7 Pro+, both scoring 80%.
Other notable mentions include the Logitech G305 X Superlight (73%), the Razer Cobra Hyperspeed (77.5%), and the SteelSeries Aerox 3 Wireless Gen 2 (78.5%). On the flip side, the Corsair Sabre V2 Pro Wireless CF scored lowest at 38.5%, followed by the AngryMiao AM Infinity at 44%.
The study only included mice that PC Gamer has reviewed, so it's not exhaustive, but it does highlight that solid budget mice can offer excellent value. As gamers increasingly seek ultralight mice and are willing to pay more, this analysis shows that you don't have to break the bank for a great mouse.
What do you think? Will you be picking up one of these top-rated budget mice? Let us know in the comments!
