Witcher 3 Remastered Hits 94 on Metacritic, Tops 2026 Charts

Did you expect anything less from The Witcher 3? The Remastered version just launched, and its early Metacritic scores are in—and they're absolutely stellar.

With a Metascore of 94 based on nine PC reviews, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered is now the best-rated version of the game. That's higher than the original 2015 release (92) and the Complete Edition (85). The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the Complete Edition actually averaged a 94 too, but those didn't count toward the main Metascore because they had far fewer reviews. Now, the Remastered edition is holding that 94 with just nine reviews—so there's room for fluctuation, especially since the previous releases were based on 79 and 65 reviews, respectively. But if it holds, we're looking at the definitive way to play.

And it's not just the best Witcher 3—it's currently the best game of 2026 on Metacritic. The Remastered edition sits at the top of the site's 2026 list, tied with twin-stick shooter Sektori. That means it's beaten heavy hitters like Resident Evil Requiem, Pokemon Pokopia, and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. Not bad for a game that first came out 11 years ago.

Of course, this shouldn't come as a huge shock. The Witcher 3 is widely considered one of the greatest RPGs ever made, and a remaster that polishes an already fantastic experience was always likely to review well. But living up to those expectations is another thing entirely—and it seems CD Projekt Red has done just that.

If you're wondering about fan reactions, those will start flooding in soon. The Remastered version went live less than an hour before this writing, so players are just diving in. If you're looking for something to tide you over until The Witcher 4, this is a pretty great option.

Speaking of The Witcher 4, the dev team recently said they're "still predominantly using people" over AI in development, according to the CEO. But he added that "everybody has to make those judgments on their own." That's a discussion for another day—right now, it's all about that 94.
