Razer's New Pokemon Mouse Looks... Not Great

Razer's upcoming Pokemon-themed Viper V4 Pro mouse has fans scratching their heads over its odd grey, yellow, and green color scheme. The pixel art and Poke-circle placement feel slapped on, and it's not the sleek look we expected.

Razer's New Pokemon Mouse Looks... Not Great

Ever seen a gaming mouse that made you do a double-take for all the wrong reasons? Razer's latest Pokemon collaboration might just be that mouse. Images of a Pokemon-themed Viper V4 Pro surfaced on Chinese site Bilibili, and let's just say the reaction hasn't been overwhelmingly positive.

The mouse features a peculiar mix of grey, yellow, and green that feels, well, uncoordinated. The pixel art and yellow Poke-circle on the body seem about as seamless as your average in-game graffiti emote—just slapped on without much thought. It's a far cry from the sleek, simple design that made the original Viper V4 Pro so beloved.

This isn't the first time Razer has raised eyebrows with the Viper V4 Pro. Just recently, there was chatter about another potential version that might cost $300, if currency conversion and Chinese market listings are anything to go by. That's a hefty price tag for a mouse that many already consider fantastic for its clean looks and relatively affordable price compared to other top-end gaming mice.

There's also a chair and a keyboard in this Pokemon lineup, and apparently our colleague James prefers the look of those to the mouse. I have to agree, though the grey still clashes too much with the green for my taste. But the real missed opportunity here? A proper red-and-white Pokeball-themed version. Instead, we get this grey-and-whatever-else monstrosity.

For a company that has made one of the best mice we've ever used, it's disappointing to see them mess with a good thing. The Viper V4 Pro's appeal lies in its understated design and performance, and this Pokemon edition feels like it's trying too hard without hitting the mark.

Will this mouse find an audience? Maybe die-hard Pokemon fans will appreciate it, but for many, it's a pass. I'll be sticking with my white Viper V4 Pro, thank you very much.

What do you think of this Pokemon-themed mouse? Will you be picking one up, or does it miss the mark for you? Let us know in the comments!
