Bulkhead says bringing Wardogs to PS6 and Xbox's Project Helix should be a straightforward port, with the studio already in talks with platform holders.

Wardogs Dev: PS6 and Next Xbox Ports Will Be a Breeze

Ever wonder what happens when a game launches late in a console cycle and next-gen is already looming? That's exactly the spot Bulkhead finds itself in with Wardogs.

The team behind the shooter has its sights set on consoles in 2028, but with PS6 and Xbox's Project Helix on the horizon, you might be asking: will it even hit next-gen? According to Bulkhead, that's barely a question. "I think there's not too much to consider," co-founder Howard Philpott told IGN. "We make the game performant, we're going to get it on the next-gen consoles. From our perspective, it's a straight port. So yeah, absolutely is the short answer, to be honest."

Senior producer Kane Allard backed that up, noting the studio is already chatting with platform holders about the console versions. "We're obviously already in conversation with the proprietors of those platforms, and they're going to have certain criteria that we have to match," he said. "So from our perspective, if we get it on a base Xbox or base PlayStation, it shouldn't be much more work to get it on next-gen, and it should just be more performance. So I don't think it gives us anything new."

That's a pretty refreshing stance. While neither Sony nor Microsoft has locked in an official release window for their next consoles, the industry is already buzzing about what's next. Former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida recently told The Verge that Sony and Nintendo should stretch their current consoles' lifespans as long as possible, especially with rising costs already pushing up PS5 and Switch 2 prices.

As for when next-gen actually arrives? Analysts once pegged the PS6 for a 2028 launch, but that window feels less likely as time goes on. Over on Xbox, CEO Asha Sharma has confirmed Project Helix is still part of Microsoft's gaming plan, describing Gen-10 as a "family of devices." "There is not one device that fits all," she said in a memo reported by Windows Central. "We will certainly have a great console first, but we also know that many players will be on the go."

For now, if you want to play Wardogs, you'll need to hop on the PC early access version. And next week, Season 2 drops with major new features—including rain. Yes, actual weather. So whether you're waiting for consoles or diving in now, there's plenty to look forward to.

What do you think—are you holding out for next-gen, or jumping into early access? Let us know in the comments!
