Village Builder Meets Idol Demon Lord: New Demo Drops

One or Eight's village-building action RPG gets a Steam Next Fest demo, letting you build, fight, and survive the Demon Lord's chaotic musical rampage.

Village Builder Meets Idol Demon Lord: New Demo Drops

Ever wondered what it'd be like if the Demon Lord next door was less "dark overlord" and more "obsessive idol singer"? That's exactly the vibe of the newly released demo for the village-building action RPG with the wonderfully unhinged name, "LOL, the Demon Castle Is Next Door to My House www."

Published by Japan's One or Eight and developed by Team EARTH WARS, the demo dropped on the 8th to coincide with the upcoming Steam Next Fest. It's a genre mashup that throws roguelike action combat and village construction into the same pot, and somehow it works.

The setup: your soul is on the verge of fading away when a goddess saves you and summons you to the otherworld of "Luna." You arrive as a "Builder" with the power of creation. Then one night, monsters start making a ruckus all around you — and your farming life gets a lot more complicated.

From the opening hours, the main quest does a solid job of guiding you. You'll learn to build, recruit villagers, and work the fields step by step. But it's not all peaceful homesteading. Certain areas carry the "Goddess's Blessing," a roguelike twist where defeating monsters in each zone grants you blessings. Stack up random abilities or grab extra materials until you're ready to face the boss.

Then there's the "Demon Riot" — and it is gloriously absurd. This Demon Lord, who has a bit of a bratty "mesugaki" personality, whips monsters into a frenzy by belting out idol songs. Every five days, a Demon Riot triggers and the mobs come for your village. Yes, you're basically defending your home from a demonic concert.

The system you absolutely need to know about is the "Hat System." Crafting different hats lets you and your villagers take on different classes, and you can swap between four hats on the fly. Whether you're built for combat or production, there's a hat and talent tree for it. This is the key to pushing the main story and playing efficiently.

This demo covers the early game up to the first boss — roughly 2 to 3 hours. That includes village building, crafting, facility construction and setup, plus the Hat class system, the Goddess's Blessing, and the Demon Riot battles. Compared to the earlier open beta, production classes can now join the fight, the Demon Lord Plachina Gotterdammerung's Demon Riot got a singing performance, and plenty of fixes and improvements landed based on beta feedback.

The game is headed to PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, and PS5. The Steam version launches in Winter 2026, with the Switch 2 and PS5 versions set for 2027.

So, does a demonic idol concert every five days sound like your kind of village management challenge? Will you be picking this one up when it hits Steam?
