Fallout 5 Might Not Arrive Until the 2030s, But We Can't Stop Talking About It

Fallout 4 launched in 2015, and Fallout 5 could be over a decade away as Bethesda focuses on The Elder Scrolls 6. Despite the wait, fans and PC Gamer are still buzzing with ideas for the series.

Fallout 5 Might Not Arrive Until the 2030s, But We Can't Stop Talking About It

Can you believe it's been nearly a decade since we last explored the wasteland in a mainline Fallout game? Fallout 4 dropped way back in 2015, and if you're holding your breath for Fallout 5, you might want to take a seat. According to the latest chatter, we're probably not getting a new single-player Fallout until well into the 2030s.

Why the long wait? Bethesda has its hands full with The Elder Scrolls 6, which itself is still a few years away. Only after that will they even think about Fallout 5. So, the earliest we might see it is 2032, maybe even 2035. That could mean a 20-year gap between mainline Fallout games. Ouch.

In the meantime, we've had Fallout 76, which keeps chugging along with updates. And Microsoft has apparently cracked the whip on Obsidian Entertainment to produce something Fallout-related. But it's not the same as a proper Fallout 5, is it?

So what's a wasteland wanderer to do? Well, you could watch the Amazon TV series while mindlessly mashing controller buttons, but that's not exactly satisfying. Instead, the folks at PC Gamer decided to roll back that big Vault door and air out some thoughts about the series. They've got some spicy takes: if any Fallout games deserve a remaster, it's the first two. Hardcore mode is the best way to play New Vegas. Fallout 4 is more interesting than Fallout 3. The TV show should feel free to stomp on established lore. Fallout doesn't have to be about a Vault Dweller—or even about Fallout itself. And Fallout Shelter is great; we need more spinoffs. Oh, and Fallout 2 is overrated.

Love them or hate them, these opinions keep the conversation alive. And that's the point: even if we're years away from a new game, Fallout's world is too rich to ignore. The community keeps it breathing, whether through mods, fan theories, or heated debates about which game is best.

So, what do you think? Are you okay with waiting until the 2030s for Fallout 5, or should Bethesda hand the reins to someone else? Will you be picking up any spinoffs in the meantime? Let us know in the comments!
