Did you catch that new GTA 6 screenshot? It's giving off some serious Pulp Fiction vibes, and fans are already dissecting every pixel.
The image, shared by Love magazine on Instagram, shows Lucia and Jason in what looks like a diner booth. But here's the kicker: the GTA 6 Countdown social media account juxtaposed it with the iconic opening scene from Quentin Tarantino's 1994 crime classic, and the framing is almost identical. In Pulp Fiction, Tim Roth and Amanda Plummer's characters, Pumpkin and Honey Bunny, famously rob the diner. Given that Lucia and Jason are criminals themselves, it's not a huge leap to imagine a similar scenario playing out in GTA 6.
Look closely at the screenshot: both characters are gripping pistols, and Lucia seems poised to stuff an empty duffel bag with cash and valuables. Maybe they're just enjoying a quiet breakfast? Yeah, right. The visual cues scream heist-in-progress. This wouldn't be the first time GTA has tipped its hat to cinema. Vice City was packed with Scarface references, and GTA 5 had clear nods to Heat. So a Pulp Fiction homage fits right in.
GTA 6 tells a Bonnie and Clyde-style story of two lovers who are also criminals. Things didn't end well for that infamous duo, and fans are already speculating how Lucia and Jason's tale might wrap up. The game's writers, Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern and Alexa D'Agostino, recently opened up to Love magazine about crafting these characters. "We wanted both protagonists to be vulnerable, tough, flawed, right sometimes, wrong sometimes, able to learn from each other," Gauvey-Kern said. "That's what we felt made them authentic, and a great team." D'Agostino added, "When you are focusing on writing a fully realized person with their own wants, you're going to get something perfectly imperfect--with clichés, but also undeniably real."
Mark your calendars: GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. And if you're in Miami, you might spot some GTA 6-inspired jerseys on November 18, when the Miami Heat play on a court that references Vice City, the game's stand-in for Miami. The game will take players beyond Miami to other parts of Florida, but don't expect to visit Rockstar's version of Walt Disney World.
So, what do you think? Is this screenshot a deliberate Pulp Fiction nod, or are we reading too much into it? Will you be picking up GTA 6 when it drops? Let us know in the comments!
