PlatinumGames Isn't Done With Bayonetta, Says CEO

Ever wondered if Bayonetta would ever hang up her gun heels? Well, PlatinumGames CEO Atsushi Inaba just hinted that the Umbra Witch isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

In a recent interview with Famitsu (via VGC), Inaba was asked about the future of the Bayonetta series. He played it coy at first, saying, "I can't really answer that right now." But then he dropped a line that should get fans excited: "We have a strong desire to further develop the character of Bayonetta and expand her world. Please look forward to seeing what form that takes in the future."

That's a pretty big deal, especially considering how many key developers have left PlatinumGames over the years. Original Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya departed to start Clovers, where he's working on Okami 2. Other notable exits include Resident Evil character designer Masaki Yamanaka, Metal Gear Rising director Kenji Saito, Astral Chain director Takahisa Taura, and Bayonetta 2 director Yusuke Hashimoto, who went to Capcom and recently worked on Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

Even without the exodus, making another Bayonetta isn't simple. The series is co-owned by Sega and Nintendo, who published the first and second games respectively. Bayonetta 2 was a Wii U exclusive and later ported to Switch, while Bayonetta 3 launched on Switch in 2022. So any new entry would need both companies on board.

The interview itself was a promotional partnership between Inaba and Shift-Up boss Hyung-tae Kim, tied to Stellar Blade's Bayonetta crossover event on Nintendo Switch 2. So while we don't have a concrete announcement, it's clear the studio still has love for the character.

In the meantime, PlatinumGames has been keeping busy. Their last release was Ninja Gaiden 4, a collaboration with Team Ninja that launched on October 21, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC. Next up, they're working on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, an action-adventure game based on the popular comic. It was announced at Summer Game Fest in June 2026 after the original version by Black Forest Games was canceled.

However, there's a bit of corporate drama looming. Warner Bros and Paramount have merged into a giant called Skydance in a $110 billion deal expected to close on October 6, 2026. That merger gives Skydance control over huge franchises like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Batman. Usually, mergers lead to casualties, and Paramount's live-action, R-rated TMNT: The Last Ronin movie was already put on hold before the companies joined forces. It remains to be seen if PlatinumGames' next project survives the storm.

So, what do you think? Are you hoping for a new Bayonetta game, or should PlatinumGames focus on their new TMNT project? Let us know in the comments!
