Have you ever been told you're too old to game? Cath Bowie, a 78-year-old grandmother from Scotland, heard that and turned it into a world record. Known online as Grumpygran1948, she's now officially the world's oldest female Fortnite streamer, as certified by Guinness World Records.

Bowie's journey began in 2017, when Fortnite's battle royale mode first launched. That makes her a true OG. Her teenage grandson introduced her to the game, but he also doubted her. He told her that nobody would watch a grandmother play Fortnite. Big mistake. "Saying that was like a red rag to a bull to me," Bowie told BBC News. "I would show him that I could do it."

And show him she did. Today, she has 24,000 followers and streams daily on YouTube and Twitch. "Twenty four thousand followers later and he doesn't mention it," she said. "I wonder why?" Clearly, her grandson learned not to underestimate Grumpygran.

Bowie plays Fortnite's battle royale mode, often in Zero Build, and she appreciates its non-gory approach. "You're trying to get the better of your opponents and eliminate them," she explained. "But there's no blood on the scene - you just shoot somebody and they either crawl about until they die or they're just obliterated with the one shot. So there isn't any mess — nothing like that." It's a refreshing take on the game's violence, focusing on strategy over gore.

Her achievement hasn't gone unnoticed by Epic Games, the developer behind Fortnite. They've described her as a "goat" — that's Greatest of All Time, in case you're not up on the lingo. It's a huge shoutout from the makers of the game she loves.
