Meta's $1,300 VR Glasses: Xbox Cloud Gaming on Your Face

Ever dreamed of playing Xbox games on a screen the size of your face? Meta's new VR Glasses might be your (very expensive) ticket.

Launching in Spring 2027 for a whopping $1,300, these glasses are basically a Quest 3 you can wear on your face without the bulk. They weigh just 100 grams, thanks to a pocket-sized puck that houses all the tech. Inside that puck you'll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon Reality Elite chipset, 128GB of storage, 12GB of RAM, and a battery. The glasses themselves feature 5K Micro OLED lenses that output 2412 x 2288 pixels per eye at a 120Hz refresh rate.

Out of the box, you get access to the entire Meta Quest catalog, plus Xbox Cloud Gaming support. Meta also says they're "IMAX-Enhanced certified" with Dolby Vision HDR, and you can watch 3D movies on them. When they launch, there'll be a library of 75 games playable with just your hands, or you can connect the glasses to a console or handheld as an alternate display.

No controllers come in the box, but you can buy Touch Plus controllers separately or pair your existing Quest 3/3S ones. Meta is also pushing Holograms—photorealistic avatars of your face, similar to Apple Vision Pro's Personas—for calls with other VR Glasses owners. The catch? They're rendered as flat stereoscopic video for now, but Meta plans to evolve them and eventually replace the current cartoon avatars.

The price is the big hurdle. At $1,300, it's more than double a 512GB Quest 3 and several times a Quest 3S. Sure, portability is nice, but if you just want movie watching or a second screen for consoles, cheaper options like the Viture Beast and Pro 2 XR glasses exist. For pure VR gaming, though, Meta's platform has dozens of great games and upcoming ports like High on Life. And if you need a pricey option right now, Valve's Steam Frame costs over $1,000 and has started shipping.
