Did you know the original Cammy almost made a comeback? Orville Peck, who plays Vega in the new Street Fighter movie, just spilled some tea: the studio reportedly tried to get Kylie Minogue to cameo in the film. But it just didn't work out.
Peck explained that they were having trouble reaching Kylie, so he offered to text her himself. "I was trying to orchestrate this whole thing," he said, "and it didn't work out with timing." According to Peck, Kylie was totally down to do it, but schedules couldn't align. She even told him that filming the original 1994 Street Fighter was "one of the most fun experiences of her life" and was excited for him to join the new cast.
Kylie Minogue played Cammy in the 1994 Street Fighter movie, which was written and directed by Steven E. de Souza. That film starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Byron Mann as Ryu, Damian Chapa as Ken, Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li, Jay Tavare as Vega, and Raul Julia as M. Bison. It was a commercial success but critically panned—though Raul Julia's performance earned him a posthumous Saturn Award.
The new Street Fighter movie is in theaters now, and while Kylie's cameo didn't happen, there's still a notable one: filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou, who were originally set to direct the film. Fitting, since they made the viral "Street Fighter in Real Life" YouTube video.
So close, yet so far. Would you have loved to see Kylie return as Cammy? Let us know in the comments!
