Did you think Konami was done with Silent Hill after the recent flurry of releases? Think again. Producer Motoi Okamoto has teased that the company is already plotting "second and third waves" of new games in the iconic horror franchise.
In an interview featured in Famitsu Issue 1965 (via Game Observer), Okamoto offered a foggy but promising glimpse into the future. "All three titles we initially announced were able to be released successfully, so we’re relieved (laughs)," he said. "They’ve also received high praise, and we are satisfied with it." That first wave included the Silent Hill 2 remake, Silent Hill f, and last month's Silent Hill: Townfall.
Townfall, the most recent installment, dropped players into the shoes of protagonist Simon Ordell in a '90s Scotland setting. It received generally favorable reviews, with IGN giving it an 8/10. We said, "Like the intravenous needle permanently jutting out of its hero’s wrist, Silent Hill: Townfall gives this long running series a welcome shot in the arm." So yeah, the comeback is real.
But getting here wasn't easy. After Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills failed to materialize, Okamoto had a hard time convincing higher-ups that more games was the way to go. As far as he was concerned, though, "just one remake is not enough," adding, "as a producer, I cannot let it end only with that." He also worried that a single release might make fans think development would be cancelled again.
Now, with the first wave successfully launched, Okamoto says the team is relieved but not stopping. "We must think of the second and third waves," he explained. "We can’t share specific details, but we’re currently looking at a number of projects." That's right—multiple new Silent Hill games are in the works, though Konami is keeping quiet on what they are.
We already knew the series would continue in some form. Bloober Team, the horror-centric developer behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, confirmed last year that it was working on a remake of the original Silent Hill. So the future is looking bright for fans who have waited through the long drought.
What do you think the second and third waves will bring? Will you be picking up the next Silent Hill game? Let us know in the comments!
