Ever spotted a typo on your soldier's shoulder and wondered if a robot designed it? That's exactly what happened to Battlefield 6 players who noticed some oddities in the game's newest cosmetics—and now the developer has responded.
Battlefield Studios released a statement acknowledging the "conversation, memes, and candid feedback" around some of Battlefield 6's fresh skins and cosmetic items. The most glaring issue? A McNeil skin that says "SECUTY" on the shoulder instead of "SECURITY." Yeah, that's a pretty visible oops.
The good news is a fix is on the way. Battlefield Studios plans to address the typo with the Season 5, Phase 2 patch in November. But the studio also admitted that letting a known visual error go live without quick acknowledgement "creates confusion and erodes trust." They're now reviewing how they communicate known visual bugs so you aren't left guessing whether something was intentional or just overlooked.
"Seeing visual oddities slip through is frustrating for everyone," the developer said, adding that they're examining internal processes to tighten quality control. They also emphasized taking pride in "the craft of our world and our gear," and acknowledged this particular item missed the mark.
But here's the elephant in the room: the statement didn't say whether generative AI played a role in creating these cosmetics. That silence is notable, especially since Battlefield 6 launched in 2025 and players immediately spotted what they thought were AI-created assets—and Battlefield Studios never denied it. The studio's higher-ups are known to be big believers in AI for game development.
For context, Activision has openly admitted to using AI for some assets, including the upcoming Modern Warfare 4. And according to Brandon Stirrup, who works on business strategy for Xbox at Microsoft, using AI in 2026 workflows is standard practice across industries—including gaming. He noted that gamers express "negative sentiment" about it, so developers don't always freely admit to using the tech. "Everyone else accepts reality," he said.
Battlefield Studios also addressed the Midnight Mirage skin that gives the character five pistols. They clarified this was an intentional creative choice to reflect "over-the-top action movie tropes" where soldiers inexplicably always have another weapon strapped to their gear. Fair enough—but they understood how it could look unintentional alongside other cosmetic anomalies.
In other Battlefield 6 news, the game was recently added to Xbox Game Pass and is marked down on all platforms to celebrate the recent Season 5 launch. So if you've been on the fence, now might be a good time to jump in.
What do you think about the typo drama and the AI silence? Will you be picking up Battlefield 6 on sale, or are you waiting for that November patch first?
