Pokémon: Wild Card Movie Announced for 2027 with TCG Focus

Ever dreamed of seeing a Pokémon story centered on the Trading Card Game? Well, get ready, because Pokémon: Wild Card is officially on the way!

Announced during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Pokémon World Championships, this new animated movie marks the first Pokémon film in seven years. Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of The Pokémon Company, revealed that the protagonist is a Pokémon TCG player, just like the competitors at the event, battling to become a champion.

The 39-second teaser trailer gave us a glimpse of the action, highlighting the TCG, the mischievous Mimikyu, and our hero at a table with a Mimikyu card in play. It's a fresh angle that should excite both card game fans and movie buffs alike.

Behind the scenes, the movie is in good hands. CloverWorks, the studio known for hits like My Dress-Up Darling and Bocchi the Rock!, is handling the animation. Katsuhiko Kitada directs, with character designs by Akemi Hayashi, and production by Story inc. The teaser also hinted at a release "starting in 2027" and "beyond," suggesting there might be more in store than just one movie.

But that's not all for Pokémon animation. Another project, Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd and Pichu, was announced back in 2025, but new details emerged during a panel at this year's PokemonXP. This series will be streaming on DisneyXD, adding to the excitement for 2027.

So, are you ready to see the Pokémon TCG take center stage on the big screen? What do you think about this new direction for Pokémon movies? Let us know in the comments!
