Sweden's Tiny Game Dev Capital Just Got Its Own Walk of Fame

Ever heard of Skövde, Sweden? Probably not. But we'd bet good money you've played something its residents built.

This town of roughly 58,000 people has pumped out hit after hit on Steam — especially in the survival genre — and now it's celebrating them in style with its very own Hollywood-inspired "Walk of Game." Yes, really. The games are immortalised right there in the city's sidewalks.

The rules for getting a spot? A game needs to have sold at least 3 million copies (or hit 15 million downloads if it's free), and at least 50% of its development hours must have been completed in Skövde. Tough crowd, but the town clearly has the pedigree to fill those shoes.

So who's already in? Goat Simulator and Satisfactory from Coffee Stain Studios, V Rising from Stunlock Studios, Valheim from Iron Gate, and Raft from Redbeet Interactive. That's an absurdly stacked lineup for one small Swedish town — and it just got bigger.

The newest name on the pavement is RV There Yet, the co-op hit where you and your buddies have to haul a massive RV home along a wildly dangerous road. It was built in under two months and sold over two million copies in a single week — a huge win for the local dev scene, and the first vehicle to drive over its own plaque got captured on camera for the occasion.

How does one town keep doing this? The RV There Yet devs pointed to the local pipeline on Twitter: "The university offers a game dev course and an incubator helps the graduates start companies. That combo creates a mega-dense game dev-per-capita ratio!" Basically, Skövde has turned game development into a hometown industry — and it's paying off in a big way.

Whatever the secret sauce is, the town has clearly earned its celebration. With survival games still dominating Steam charts, we're curious to see what the next Skövde smash looks like. Will you be picking up RV There Yet? And which game deserves the next spot on the sidewalk?
