Discord and Roblox Face Court Battle Over Child Safety

They wrote, "Instead of hiding behind the veil of arbitration, Roblox and Discord can be held accountable for their misconduct: misleading parents into thinking their platforms are safe and failing to protect children from sexual abuse."

This push comes in the wake of the Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act, passed in 2022. That law blocks companies from forcing sexual abuse survivors into arbitration, but these platforms might be trying to sidestep it. The senators are having none of that.

The case that sparked this brief involves a 13-year-old boy who allegedly met a predator on Roblox, was groomed, coerced, and blackmailed into sending lewd materials over Discord. It's a horrifying story, and it's just one of hundreds of lawsuits both platforms are currently facing.

Roblox, in particular, has been under fire from politicians and investigators. Parent company Roblox Corporation has tried to make amends, spending $12 million on safety measures like facial recognition and age verification. But CEO David Baszucki's public responses haven't exactly won people over, and it seems like the platform can't catch a break.
