WoW: Forever's Skyborne Get 2004 Makeover in 2027

Blizzard is adding an SD model option for the controversial Skyborne race in WoW: Forever, arriving early 2027, to match the classic 2004 look.

WoW: Forever's Skyborne Get 2004 Makeover in 2027

Ever felt like a blue-skinned elf just doesn't fit in your nostalgic trip back to 2004 Azeroth? You're not alone. Since Blizzard unveiled World of Warcraft: Forever at BlizzCon 2026 last month, the new Skyborne race has been a hot topic—and not always for the right reasons. From its $30 price tag to its lore implications, fans have had plenty to say. But Blizzard isn't ignoring the feedback entirely.

In fact, the team is taking steps to make the Skyborne less "jarring" when placed alongside the classic SD (standard definition) models that give WoW: Forever its old-school 2004 vibe. Currently, the beta only offers HD models for the Skyborne, while other races let you toggle between HD and SD. That's because, as Blizzard explains in a new update, they "focused on the pre-existing races from original World of Warcraft" first—since "many people have an attachment to those models."

But the Skyborne? They're getting their own SD treatment. Blizzard acknowledges the feedback: "We have heard feedback that the HD Skyborne can be jarring by contrast when placed in the same world as the SD models and world, and we agree." The fix? SD Skyborne player characters (and yes, SD Druid forms) are in development and arriving early 2027. So while they won't be ready when WoW: Forever fully launches on November 4, they are coming.

Will that be enough to appease disgruntled fans? Well, is it ever? Comments show plenty of players are still unhappy, with some even asking Blizzard to "please remove Skyborne druid" altogether—which feels a tad extreme. But there's some positivity too. I, for one, think the Skyborne are stunning and have their place in WoW: Forever. Plus, a huge chunk of beta players I see are rolling as the race, so take that as you will.

What do you think? Are you happy to wait until 2027 for an SD Skyborne, or should Blizzard have prioritized them from the start? Let us know in the comments!
