Have you ever been tempted to buy gold in an MMO? Blizzard is making it crystal clear that in World of Warcraft: Forever, that's a one-way ticket to a ban. The devs have just issued a stern warning after a beta ban spree targeting real-money trading (RMT).
On the official forums, community lead Randy "Kaivax" Jordan confirmed that Blizzard has been taking action against accounts caught botting to amass gold in the WoW Forever beta, as well as those who bought or knowingly received illicit gold. And they're not done yet. Moving forward, Blizzard will continue to swing the ban hammer and will even add a warning that pops up whenever you trade with strangers.
"Our stance on RMT in World of Warcraft is crystal clear: any account belonging to any player that is found to have participated in generating, selling, buying, or receiving illicit gold is subject to the gold being removed, account suspensions, or permanent account closures," Jordan said. That's about as blunt as it gets.
Blizzard has been trying to get ahead of this issue since WoW: Forever was announced at BlizzCon 2026. Senior game designer Josh Greenfield explained why something like GDKP (Gold Dragon Kill Points) isn't allowed: it can encourage RMT, and the devs are taking the economy "very seriously." But did that stop beta players from dabbling in RMT? Absolutely not.
As we previously reported, one WoW streamer lost $200 worth of gold for allegedly breaking the rules. They're not alone—others have cried foul, claiming they didn't knowingly receive illicit gold. But regardless of intent, Blizzard seems ready to drop the hammer on anyone with dirty gold.
So if you're in the beta and thinking about buying gold, think again. Blizzard is watching, and they're not messing around. The economy in WoW: Forever is meant to be fair, and they're doing everything they can to keep it that way.
Meanwhile, WoW: Forever isn't about the MMO's many expansions, but Blizzard is making an exception for a Make-a-Wish quest from Burning Crusade in response to fan feedback. "Stay tuned," they tease. Will you be steering clear of RMT? What do you think of Blizzard's hardline stance? Let us know in the comments!
