Remedy's Control Resonant sells 1 million copies in three weeks, becoming the studio's fastest-selling game ever and surpassing Alan Wake 2's record.

Control Resonant Hits 1 Million Sales, Remedy's Fastest-Selling Game Ever

Ever wonder what it takes for a cult favorite studio to finally score a mainstream hit? For Remedy Entertainment, the answer might just be Control Resonant. The game has officially sold over one million copies in just three weeks, making it the fastest-selling title in Remedy's 31-year history. That's a huge milestone for a studio known for critical darlings that sometimes struggle to find a massive audience.

Now, three weeks to a million might not sound like record-breaking speed compared to some blockbusters—The Blood of Dawnwalker did it in three days, Wardogs in one, and Subnautica 2 managed twice that in just 12 hours. But for Remedy, this is a big deal. Their previous fastest-seller, Alan Wake 2, took two months to reach the same mark. So Control Resonant is moving at a notably quicker clip, and it's doing so as Remedy's first self-published release of this scale.

Remedy's new CEO, Jean-Charles Gaudechon, who took over in February, called the million-sold milestone "a very strong start." He also highlighted the challenging launch window: "Control Resonant is Remedy's first self-published release of this scale, launched into one of the most competitive windows in years alongside the industry's biggest names." Despite the fierce competition, the game is clearly resonating with players.

Gaudechon went on to thank both players and the development team, saying, "A huge thank you goes to our players and to the team, who have made Control Resonant the incredible game that it is." He also emphasized the game's role in expanding the franchise: "We have always believed Control deserved an even bigger audience, and this launch shows what's possible: we see the game connecting with long-time fans while bringing a significant number of new players into the world of Control, which strengthens its long-term potential."

That long-term potential is a key point. Remedy now has two established franchises—Control and Alan Wake—and Gaudechon made it clear they plan to build on them: "With Control and Alan Wake, we now have two established franchises. Our focus is to build on what makes them special, support them, and grow them even further. There is a lot more to come from these worlds." For fans, that means more weird, wonderful adventures in the future.

Of course, sales are one thing, but profitability is another. Alan Wake 2, for example, took over a year and two million copies sold before it started making money for Remedy. Gaudechon's appointment was specifically aimed at leading the company into "a phase of profitable growth," according to chairman Henri Österlund. So while the sales pace is encouraging, all eyes will be on Remedy's Q3 business review on November 3 to see how this success translates to the bottom line.

For now, though, it's a well-deserved win for a studio that's been delivering unique, memorable experiences for decades. Control Resonant is off to a flying start, and it's bringing new players into the fold. Will you be picking it up if you haven't already? What do you think about Remedy's newfound sales momentum?
