Saros Zenith Update Adds Boss Rush and Game-Changing Difficulty Options

Have you been holding off on Saros, or maybe waiting for the perfect excuse to dive back in? Well, Housemarque just gave you a pretty great one. The free Zenith update is out now, and it's packing a boss rush mode and a bunch of difficulty options that should make everyone happy—newcomers and battle-hardened veterans alike.

Let's start with the headline feature: Overlord Rush. This new boss rush mode comes with its own dedicated leaderboards, so you can flex your skills against the rest of the world. Instead of one uninterrupted gauntlet from the first boss to the last, the fights are split into sets of three. That means you get a breather between sets—or maybe just enough time to wipe your palms. You can access Overlord Rush via the Primary robot in the main hub area.

But the real game-changer for many will be the new settings and difficulty modifiers. First up, Slow Game Speed lets you slow down the entire game so you have more time to react to incoming projectiles. You can tweak exactly how much it slows down and even set it to turn on automatically when combat starts. Then there's Auto-fire, which eliminates the need to pull the trigger when you aim—handy when you're focused on dodging. Think of it like a Vampire Survivors-style tool, as the update describes it.

Carcosan Modifiers were already in the game at launch, giving you the choice to make things easier or harder—or a mix of both in different parts of the game. But Zenith adds a whole bunch more. New Protection modifiers include a Corruption Melee Enhancement, which gives your melee attacks more power if you acquire Corruption—typically not a good thing to have. Trial Modifiers, on the other hand, make the game more challenging. Combine those with the new ultra-hard endgame Eclipse Layers, and you'll really be able to put your skills to the test.

Saros is available exclusively on PS5. In our review, Richard Wakeling called it an "incredible game that does more than just refine what worked before." So whether you're a newcomer looking for a smoother ride or a veteran craving a brutal challenge, the Zenith update has something for you.

What do you think? Will you be jumping into Overlord Rush or tweaking the difficulty to your liking? Let us know in the comments!
