Diablo 4 Won't Die When Diablo 5 Arrives, Director Promises

Are you worried that Diablo 5's announcement means Diablo 4 is on its last legs? You're not alone—but according to Diablo 4 director Brent Gibson, you can stop stressing. Speaking with Icy Veins, Gibson made it clear that Diablo 4 isn't going anywhere, even after Diablo 5 eventually hits shelves.

"I have an analogy," Gibson said. "If you're wearing a sign in the middle of Times Square saying, 'The end is nigh,' the end is not nigh. We have a lot coming. We have [the] Amazon [class] coming down the road. The train isn't stopping." That's a pretty direct way of saying: don't panic. He also pointed out that Blizzard treats Diablo as a universe, not just a series of games. "We are even adding to Diablo 2 with the Warlock," he noted. "It's one of the few franchises where we have the luxury of continued play, and we know our communities."

So what does that mean for you? For starters, Diablo 4 is getting the Amazon class in the first half of 2027. And with Diablo 5 still three years away, there's plenty of time for even more classes and experiences. Blizzard also announced at Blizzcon 2026 that Diablo 4 is coming to Switch 2, along with the Season of Hell's Legacy. That's a lot to look forward to.

Gibson doubled down on the commitment to seasons: "As long as you're showing up, we're going to continue to be making content." He pointed to Diablo 2 and Diablo 3, which still have active players and ongoing support. "There are still people who play those games," he said. So if you're a Diablo 4 regular, your dedication won't go unrewarded.

Diablo 5 director Joe Shely echoed that sentiment during a Blizzcon panel. "Diablo 4 has bright support," he said. "It's fully supported by the team. We were just announcing earlier today, coming to Diablo 4, the Amazon, the Season of Hell's legacy, Diablo 4 is coming to Switch 2, and there will continue to be ongoing support for Diablo 4. There's many reasons for players to keep playing." Production director Tiffany Wat added that dedicated teams for each game work closely together. "I think it's the best time to be a Diablo fan," she said.

So if you were worried that Diablo 5's reveal meant the end for Diablo 4, rest easy. Blizzard isn't hitting the brakes on Sanctuary anytime soon. With the Amazon class on the horizon, a Switch 2 port, and seasons continuing as long as players log in, there's never been a better time to dive back in.
