Ever dreamed of being the unsung hero of the Rebellion, flying daring missions and sticking it to the Empire? That's exactly what Wizards of the Coast is teasing with its newly announced D&D Star Wars books, and honestly, it's giving us major Andor vibes.
Revealed at New York Comic Con 2026, the adventure is called Tyro Squadron: Adventures and it's set to launch in 2027 alongside a D&D Star Wars core rulebook. While Wizards is still keeping details under wraps, we do know the story unfolds during the Original Trilogy. You'll "take the fight to the Empire as part of a secret Rebel crew," according to the official description. That means you're not a lightsaber-wielding Jedi superstar—you're part of a covert cell, just like Cassian Andor's crew. The stakes are high, and the Empire is always watching.
The announcement came with some intriguing artwork. One cover shows Darth Vader looming ominously in the background, which immediately brings to mind that terrifying corridor scene from Rogue One. Hopefully your team fares better than those poor souls. Other images suggest you might visit a prison, Coruscant, and even Hoth during the infamous battle from Empire Strikes Back. So expect a whirlwind tour of the galaxy's most dangerous spots.
But what about the flying? The description promises you'll "fly daring missions," and that's a huge part of the Star Wars fantasy. We've seen ship mechanics in D&D before with Spelljammer: Adventures in Space, so it's not a stretch to think we'll get some dogfighting action. Plus, there's mention of a "star fighter encounter at Star Wars Celebration in April 2027," which sounds like we might actually get to sit in the cockpit. Fingers crossed.
As for the core rulebook, expect it to be substantial. Star Wars doesn't slot neatly into D&D like, say, World of Warcraft does. We'll likely need entirely new or heavily modified classes and subclasses. Standard spells probably won't cut it unless you're playing a Force-sensitive, and even then, the spell list would need serious curation to fit the galaxy far, far away. Wizards has experience with big crossovers—look at D&D World of Warcraft or the upcoming Dark Sun revamp—but this one might be their biggest yet.
There's no exact release date beyond "2027," but given that the resurrected Greyhawk adventure arrives late next year, we'd guess Summer or Fall at the latest. Either way, 2027 is shaping up to be a great year for tabletop gaming. Between this and other huge crowdfunding campaigns, there's plenty to be excited about.
So, will you be joining Tyro Squadron and taking the fight to the Empire? What kind of character would you roll for a secret Rebel mission? Let us know in the comments!
