Ever feel like there are just too many games coming out this fall? You're not alone—and one publisher is actually doing something about it.
Valor Mortis, an upcoming Xbox Game Pass title, will launch at $39.99 instead of the usual full price. Why? Because October is absolutely packed with big releases, and the team behind the game doesn't want it to get lost in the shuffle.
In a statement published yesterday, the developers explained that they believe they can compete with full-price games, but they're worried about the "stacked" fall lineup. With so many titles vying for your attention—and your wallet—they decided to drop the price from day one.
The team also noted that "there's high demand for your time and money" right now. It's a refreshingly honest take from a publisher, acknowledging that players can't buy everything and that standing out in a crowded market sometimes means making a bold pricing move.
Of course, this all ties back to just how insane this fall's release schedule is. September and October have been ridiculously busy for new games, and with GTA 6 stealing the spotlight in November, the competition is fiercer than ever. Publishers are clearly feeling the pressure.
For Xbox Game Pass subscribers, this is a double win. Not only will Valor Mortis be available on the service, but its lower price point makes it an easy pickup for anyone who wants to own it outright. It's a smart way to build goodwill and get more eyes on the game.
Will other publishers follow suit? That's the big question. If Valor Mortis finds success with this strategy, we might see more developers opting for lower launch prices to avoid getting buried by the holiday rush.
