Ever wondered what it'd be like to swing Control Resonant's massive hammer in real life? Turns out, you'd need superhuman strength—or maybe just a forklift. The blacksmiths at Man at Arms, in a YouTube episode sponsored by Remedy Entertainment, built a replica of the Aberrant, the melee weapon you'll wield in the game. And let's just say, the hammer is an absolute unit.
The Aberrant can morph into various forms, but the giant hammer is the star—it looks like something straight out of a Looney Tunes cartoon if Rob Zombie were directing. To recreate it, the team used hollow steel panels and advanced welding to keep the weight down. Even so, it was still too heavy for even the burliest blacksmith to pick up or swing for a few test smashes. So for now, it's the world's coolest-looking paperweight.
Why go hollow? Because a solid chunk of metal the size of an armchair would be impossible to work with, let alone wield. The finished hammer looks intimidating and impractical, which is exactly what you'd expect from a weapon designed for a supernatural fight through Manhattan.
Control Resonant launches on September 24—or September 22 if you spring for the PS5 Deluxe Edition. And it's already earning high marks. On Metacritic, the PS5 version has a metascore of 84 from 48 reviews, making it one of the best games of 2026 according to critical consensus.
One of its big draws is how it blends Remedy's signature weirdness with engaging gameplay. In GameSpot's review, Mark Delaney wrote, "Alongside the stellar art direction and a surprisingly touching story, Control Resonant's gameplay loop feels more mainstream than anything this team has made since Max Payne." That's high praise for a game that lets you smash things with an impossibly huge hammer.
So, will you be picking up Control Resonant when it drops next week? And more importantly, would you try to lift that hammer in real life? Let us know in the comments!
