Battlefield Studios reveals a big new update for Battlefield 6 and Battlefield Redsec, with vehicle, anti-air, gunplay and matchmaking changes ahead of Season 5 and Year 2.

Battlefield 6 and Redsec Drop Major Update: What's Changing

Battlefield Studios just pulled back the curtain on a major new update headed to both Battlefield 6 and Battlefield Redsec, and it's packing some core gameplay changes that touch pretty much everything you do in a match.

Here's the big picture: after what the team calls an incredible first year, Season 5 officially kicks off Year 2 for both games. To mark the moment, the studio is rolling out a batch of quality-of-life improvements and tweaking how combat looks and feels, with the goal of making every single match as dynamic and thrilling as possible. The full breakdown lives in a blog post, but we've got the key points for you right here.

Let's start with vehicles. Vehicle health regeneration and damage are getting adjusted, and the idea is to better reward infantry players who nail their positioning and pull off smart flanking plays. Anti-air systems are also changing, with the aim of strengthening the relationship between anti-air units and aircraft. In other words, expect those aerial duels to feel a little more meaningful.

Gunplay isn't escaping the tuning pass either. There's an attachment adjustment designed to boost gameplay variety, plus some animation polish for certain weapons, tactical gear and stances. Matchmaking is getting love too, with improved rank brackets meant to create more accurate skill tiers, so you're not stuck in lobbies that feel all over the place.

One feature a lot of you will appreciate: reconnect functionality. If you crash or get disconnected unexpectedly, you'll be able to jump back into an ongoing battle royale match instead of losing all your progress. There's also a Recommended Drop Zone system, but it's only for casual battle royale. It gives newcomers a guided drop system that points them toward recommended points of interest and nearby loot spots, while steering them away from instant squad fights.

Armor mechanics and application speed have been significantly improved, and classes have been refined with rebalanced training paths. It's a solid list of changes that should shake up how matches play out.

And this is just the beginning. Season 5 is only the start of the year's content evolution. Throughout 2027, Battlefield Studios says it will keep delivering new content for both Battlefield 6 and Battlefield Redsec, while continuing to refine the core systems that define the Battlefield experience. That includes making vehicle gameplay more immersive and steadily expanding the gunplay system. The team also plans to work closely with players through Battlefield Labs, using real-time game feedback to make sure the game keeps evolving in the right direction.

So stay tuned for more updates, because the team says it's committed to enhancing the experience. What change are you most hyped for, and what do you want to see next? Let us know in the comments.
