Did you contribute to Steam's record-breaking September? If you bought Wardogs or any other big release, you did! According to industry analysts Alinea Analytics, Steam generated a whopping $1.7 billion in September 2026. That's the platform's best September ever, up 13% from last year's record. And with the holiday season approaching, it looks like Steam's yearly revenue will blow past $20 billion for the first time.
September's success was driven by a mix of blockbuster new releases and steady back-catalogue sales. The month's biggest new game was Wardogs, which pulled in an estimated $86.9 million on Steam. But as Rhys Elliott, Alinea's head of market analysis, pointed out, the hype cycles for surprise hits like Arc Raiders and Helldivers 2 were even more sustained. By this point, Helldivers 2 had made $130 million on Steam (26.5% more than Wardogs), while Arc Raiders had made about $125 million (21.2% more).
Other notable new launches in September included Onimusha: Way of the Sword ($30.4 million), The Blood of Dawnwalker ($26.9 million), Bodycam ($24.2 million), and EA Sports FC27 ($20.7 million). Clearly, there was no shortage of games to play.
Steam's strong performance wasn't limited to September. The platform also had its best-ever Q3, generating $5.5 billion—up 12% compared to last year. That brings Steam's total revenue for the first nine months of 2026 to $16.5 billion, a 13% increase from the $14.5 billion it made in the same period in 2025.
And the rest of the year? It's absolutely stacked. Elliott noted that the release slate for the remainder of 2026 is "insane," which is why he's confident Steam will surpass $20 billion in yearly revenue for the first time. Looking at October alone, it's easy to see why: Valve is launching its new wireless VR headset, Steam Frame; the compact living room gaming box, Steam Machine; and the Steam Controller, a gamepad designed to replace your mouse.
With so many big releases and new hardware on the horizon, it's a great time to be a PC gamer. Will you be picking up any of these upcoming Steam products? Let us know in the comments!
