GTA 6's Sweat System: Realism or Overkill?

Rockstar's GTA 6 will feature a context-specific sweating system where characters perspire based on effort. Is this the realism we want?

GTA 6's Sweat System: Realism or Overkill?

Did you ever think you'd see the day when a GTA game simulates how much your character sweats? Well, that day is coming. According to reporter Jason Schreier, Rockstar has built a new system for GTA 6 that makes Lucia or Jason perspire different amounts depending on how much effort they're putting in. Yes, really.

So how does it work? If you're dancing extra hard in a nightclub, your character will sweat more than if they're just chilling. The system also kicks in when you're hitting the gym or just standing outside in the heat of GTA 6's version of south Florida. It's all part of Rockstar's push for realism, which also included ridealongs with police officers and visits to strip clubs.

But before you roll your eyes, remember this isn't the first time a game has gone deep on bodily fluids. EA Sports made sweat look more realistic in Madden years ago, and 2K Sports improved sweating in NBA 2K even earlier. So Rockstar is following a proud tradition of making virtual sweat look, well, sweaty.

Still, GTA 6 isn't a life sim. Rockstar has said they're balancing simulation with fun, so don't expect to manage your character's hydration levels. The sweat system is just one of many fine details that explain why the game has taken so long to make. It's the little things, right?

GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and it's expected to be the biggest game ever. But despite that, experts say its success won't fix the deep issues in the video game market. So while we're all hyped for sweat and nightclubs, the industry has bigger problems.

What do you think? Is a sweating system a cool detail or a waste of resources? Will you be picking up GTA 6 on day one? Let us know in the comments!
