Looking for new melee jobs in FFXIV? Here are five weapon types that could shake up the roster and bring fresh gameplay.

5 Melee Weapons Final Fantasy XIV Should Add Next

Ever find yourself scrolling through the FFXIV job list and thinking, "Hmm, we've got swords, axes, and fists... but what's missing?" You're not alone. With each expansion, we see new jobs, but the melee lineup has been feeling a bit samey lately. So, let's brainstorm: what melee weapons could Square Enix introduce to spice things up?

First up, how about the scythe? We've seen it on the Reaper, but that's a DPS job. Imagine a tank who uses a massive scythe to cleave through enemies while keeping aggro. It's a classic RPG weapon that's been oddly absent from the tank role. Plus, it'd give us some seriously cool armor designs.

Next, let's talk about the whip. It's a weapon that's been in Final Fantasy games before, like Ivy from Soulcalibur or the Dragon Quest series. A whip-wielding melee DPS could offer mid-range attacks and some unique positioning mechanics. It's a bit out there, but that's what makes it exciting.

Another option is the hammer. We've got hammers in the game as crafting tools, but not as a primary weapon for a job. A hammer-wielding melee DPS or tank could bring a slow, heavy-hitting playstyle, similar to the Warrior but with more of a blunt force trauma vibe. It's a classic choice that's been begging to be used.

Then there's the claw. We already have the Monk with fist weapons, but claws could be a different take on unarmed combat, maybe with a more savage, beast-like feel. Think Wolverine from X-Men, but in Eorzea. It could be a fast, bleeding-focused DPS that's all about stacking damage over time.

Finally, how about the spear? We've got the Dragoon with lances, but a spear could be a more defensive weapon, maybe for a tank or a support DPS. It's a versatile weapon that's been underused in FFXIV, and it could offer a different flavor than the typical sword-and-board.

These are just a few ideas, but the possibilities are endless. What do you think? Which melee weapon would you want to see in FFXIV's future? Let us know in the comments!
